Sourced figures: prices in the table are published by the operators and guides named, with source and check month. They are not our offers, and they change. Nothing here is legal or medical advice.

Published Sumbawa liveaboard routes fall into five patterns: a short trip from Sumbawa Besar, a crossing between Bali and Labuan Bajo, a Bali round trip, a start in Labuan Bajo, and a shared boat between Lombok and Labuan Bajo. Each sets its own balance of sailing and stops. All belong to the named operators, so fix your start point, then ask which stops are firm.
Which route patterns do operators publish?
Nearly every published Sumbawa liveaboard fits one of five patterns. The table groups named examples under each, with the length and the stops that the source itself states. Every line describes a named seller's trip, and none of it is a schedule of ours.
| Pattern | Example and source | Length as stated | Stops or timing as stated |
|---|---|---|---|
| Short trip from Sumbawa Besar | Tiger Blue | 4 nights, 5 days | Departs from and returns to Sumbawa Besar |
| Short trip from Sumbawa Besar | Sumbawa Tour | 4 days, 3 nights | Airport pick-up, Goa harbour, Satonda, two whale shark mornings, Moyo, last night in a hotel |
| Short trip from Sumbawa Besar | Sumbawa Tour, three-day programme | 3 days, 2 nights | Private boat from Goa port: Moyo and Mata Jitu, a night at Satonda, a night in Saleh Bay, one whale shark morning |
| Short trip from Sumbawa Besar | Sumbawa Holiday | 2 days, 1 night | Goa harbour, Mata Jitu, a night near the whale shark point, back to Goa harbour the next afternoon |
| Crossing between Bali and Labuan Bajo | Neptune One, on Komodo Resort's page | 10 days, 9 nights | North coast past Moyo and Satonda to Gili Banta; a 20 June 2027 departure is listed |
| Crossing between Bali and Labuan Bajo | Naga Biru, sold by Tropical Snorkeling | 15 days | West Komodo and Sumbawa, snorkelling focus |
| Crossing between Bali and Labuan Bajo | Arenui sample itinerary | 10 days, 9 nights | Includes Sangeang and Moyo |
| Bali round trip | Mermaid II | 8 days, 7 nights | Komodo and the whale sharks of Saleh Bay; 2027 departures include 22 May, 10 July, 24 July, 14 August and 28 August |
| Start in Labuan Bajo | Coralia sample itinerary | 10 nights | Moyo, Saleh Bay and Satonda, with about 30 to 32 dives |
| Start in Labuan Bajo | Tiger Blue, same page as above | 10 nights | Links Komodo with Sumbawa and Moyo; private charter or by the cabin |
| Shared boat between Lombok and Labuan Bajo | Asik Travel guide | 4 days, 3 nights | Leaves Kayangan Harbour around 14:00, arrives around 13:00 on day four |
La Galigo's cost guide says these trips typically run 4 days and 3 nights, 7 days and 6 nights, or 8 to 10 days on extended crossings. Read that as one operator's summary of the market. The 15-day Naga Biru trip sits outside it, and a label such as 4 days and 3 nights can hide a night ashore, as the next section shows.
How do short trips from Sumbawa Besar differ from crossings?
A short trip works one area hard. Tiger Blue's starts and ends in Sumbawa Besar, so you fly home from the airport you landed at and you carry no one-way logistics. Sumbawa Tour's programme has a detail worth reading twice: three nights in the title, but two on the boat, because the last is spent in a hotel. Compare the short products by nights aboard rather than by the headline. Our four-day trip guide goes through that programme stop by stop.
A crossing does a different job. It moves a boat along the north coast, and that makes the date scarce. Neptune's scuba site puts its crossing at one sailing a year, in June. The same operator writes that liveaboards rarely make the crossing from December to March, when the northwest monsoon brings swell to the north coast. If a crossing is your goal, settle the date before anything else. You also land in one town and fly out of another, so you buy two one-way flights and leave a margin at each end in case the boat runs late. The Bali to Komodo crossing guide covers that in detail.
The shared Lombok boat sits between the two. Its label is short, yet its job is transit: it has to reach Labuan Bajo by the fourth day. If you need to return to Lombok afterwards, the Asik Travel guide says Wings Air flies nonstop between Praya and Labuan Bajo in about 75 minutes, which is a fraction of the time the boat took. The Lombok to Labuan Bajo guide deals with cabin classes and boat condition on that corridor.
Which route suits whale sharks, volcanoes or waterfalls?
Start from the stop you would be sorry to miss, then keep only the routes whose sellers name it.
- Whale sharks. Mermaid II puts Saleh Bay in the trip's name, Sumbawa Tour sets aside two mornings, and Coralia's sample includes the bay. Do not assume the rest do: one traveller warns that not all 4-day trips stop in Saleh Bay, especially those sailing from Labuan Bajo to Lombok. The Saleh Bay whale shark liveaboard page sorts trips by how firmly they name the stop. A stop is not a sighting either, as the sighting guide explains.
- Volcanoes. Arenui's sample names Sangeang, and Neptune's site mentions it too. Tropical Snorkeling describes snorkelling in bubbles rising from the black sand around the island. Tambora is usually scenery: Neptune describes the crossing passing close to its flat-topped silhouette. See whether a trip visits Sangeang and what Tambora looks like from the boat.
- Waterfalls. Green Rinjani lists a Labuan Bajo to Lombok itinerary that stops at Moyo for the waterfall on day three, then Gili Bola and Kanawa, ending at Kayangan. The Mata Jitu visit guide explains how guests get from the landing to the pools, and the Moyo Island liveaboard page covers the reefs and park status.
- The crater lake. Sumbawa Tour, Coralia and Neptune One all name Satonda. The Satonda guide covers what you do there.
- Heavy diving. Coralia's dive count gives you a yardstick, and Komodo Resort singles out Gili Banta as the site calling for Advanced certification. The diving guide has the site list.
How much time goes to sailing rather than stops?
More than a day count suggests. The Asik Travel guide is unusually frank about its shared boat: a mid-afternoon start and an early-afternoon finish leave roughly two full days of islands, and the second of those is mostly at sea. Four days on the label, then, and a good deal less than that at anchor.
Geography explains why: the stops are strung out along the north coast. Longitude is a blunt tool that ignores headlands and anchorages, but it shows the order in which a boat meets each place.
| Place, west to east | Approximate longitude | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Sumbawa Besar airport | 117.414 E | Wikipedia |
| Moyo Island | 117.567 E | Wikipedia |
| Satonda Island | 117.746 E | Wikipedia |
| Mount Tambora | 118.000 E | Wikipedia |
| Sangeang Api | 119.070 E | Wikipedia |
Moyo and Satonda sit close together at the western end, and Sangeang is well to the east. Sumbawa Tour's four-day programme names Satonda and Moyo, so it can stay in the western cluster, while a route naming Moyo, Satonda and Sangeang has to cover the whole span. Sailing hours between these points are not published, so put the question to the seller:
- How many nights are on the boat, and how many on land?
- What is the longest single passage, and does it run overnight or in daylight?
- On which days is there no stop at all?
- How many dives or snorkel sessions does the trip plan in total? Coralia states its number, so others can too.
Why do published stops change?
Because sellers tell you they might. Coralia warns that its itinerary may change. Tropical Snorkeling says the order of stops depends on conditions. Arenui calls its version a sample. Komodo Resort goes further and says departure ports can change, with the reservations team confirming the meeting point.
Conditions are the reason they give, and the dry season does not remove them. The Saleh Bay factsheet records high-speed winds during the southeast monsoon from June to August, which are also months when several of the departures above sail. The season guide sets out what the sources say about each month.
Hold off on non-refundable flights until the meeting point is confirmed in writing. Ask the seller to split its stop list into firm stops and stops subject to conditions, then to say what you receive if a named stop is dropped.
Can a Sumbawa liveaboard start in Bima or Maumere?
Bima, according to two guides; Maumere, according to one operator. Dive The World, a dive travel agency, says the island has no dive resorts and names three ways to dive it: a liveaboard from Bali to Komodo, one that departs from Bima, or one from Lombok to Komodo. Liveaboard Indonesia says standalone Sumbawa trips typically embark from Bima and that a route from Bima to Labuan Bajo is common. The same page says most Sumbawa liveaboards are extensions of Komodo trips from Labuan Bajo, and calls Sumbawa-only trips rare.
We have not opened a dated Bima departure on a named boat, so ask any seller for the boat and the date before you buy a flight to Bima. Adelaar says its cruises with a Saleh Bay stop are typically 6 to 10 nights, sailing from Bali, Komodo or Maumere between May and November, and offers private charter on a boat of four cabins. Elsewhere on the same page it gives May to September, so check its schedule. EcoPro Divers lists a Komodo to Sumbawa expedition of 10 nights or more from Labuan Bajo, with Saleh Bay and Hot Rocks among the highlights, rated for advanced divers on a boat of 8 guests.
How far ahead are departure dates published?
A year or more, for the longer trips. As of late 2026, the sellers below already list dates for 2027 or 2028. A cabin on a scarce crossing can therefore be a decision you make a year or more out, and that may also fix when you pay: the Tropical Snorkeling trip has deposits falling due long before departure, as our offer checklist explains.
| Trip | Dates its seller lists |
|---|---|
| Neptune One, Bali to Labuan Bajo | 20 June 2027 |
| Mermaid II, Bali-Komodo-Bali with Saleh Bay | 2027 dates from 22 May to 28 August among those named |
| Naga Biru, 15-day trip | 15 to 29 April 2028 and 19 September to 3 October 2028 among those named |
Sumbawa Tour describes its short programme as private, and Tiger Blue sells by charter or by the cabin, so your dates may be the starting point of that conversation. A listed date is also not the same as a free cabin, and only the seller can confirm that.
How do you choose a start point?
Choose by your days and your flights, then check that the route names your stop.
| Your situation | Start to look at | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Under a week, whale sharks first | Sumbawa Besar | Wikipedia lists daily Wings Air flights to Lombok and Denpasar; ask how many nights are aboard |
| Free in June, want the whole north coast | Bali, one-way | Whether Saleh Bay and Sangeang are on that departure, since Neptune's site ties them to season |
| Want to begin and end in the same city | Bali round trip or Labuan Bajo round trip | Whether Saleh Bay is on your date, not only in the trip's description |
| Want Komodo as well, with time to spare | Labuan Bajo | Number of nights, and how the days split between Komodo and Sumbawa |
| Modest spend, content with a shared boat | Lombok, Kayangan Harbour | The boat itself: the same traveller found many on this route looked tired and basic up close |
The price table on this page carries one published line each for Mermaid II, Neptune One, Naga Biru and the shared Lombok boat. They are in three currencies and on different bases, including a "from" rate and a range by cabin class, so use them to judge scale, and read the Sumbawa liveaboard cost guide before you compare them. Our access guide covers the flights and ferries for each start point.

What do readers ask about these routes?
How long is a standard Sumbawa liveaboard itinerary?
There is no single standard. La Galigo says trips typically run 4 days and 3 nights, 7 days and 6 nights, or 8 to 10 days on extended crossings, while Tropical Snorkeling sells a 15-day trip on the same waters.
What are the common departure points for Sumbawa liveaboards?
The listings here mostly use four: Sumbawa Besar, Bali, Labuan Bajo and Kayangan Harbour on Lombok. Adelaar adds Maumere, and two guides mention Bima. Komodo Resort says ports can change, so get the meeting point confirmed before you book flights.
Do all Lombok to Labuan Bajo boats stop in Saleh Bay?
No. A traveller who sailed the corridor warns that not all 4-day trips stop there, especially those going from Labuan Bajo towards Lombok. Ask for the stop by name on your departure.
Does the Bali crossing run often?
No, not on Neptune's account: its scuba site describes a single June sailing, when the boat repositions for the Komodo season. Each operator sets its own dates.
Does this site publish a route or schedule of its own?
No. Every route on this page belongs to the named seller and is shown so you can compare them. The desk can answer a route question.
