Sourced figures: prices in the table are published by the operators and guides named, with source and check month. They are not our offers, and they change. Nothing here is legal or medical advice.

In the published itineraries we checked, a Moyo Island liveaboard is one stop on a longer trip, not a trip of its own. Arenui, Coralia and Tiger Blue all name Moyo. It offers reef and wall diving, then time ashore for villages, wildlife and the Mata Jitu waterfall, inside a national park declared in 2022. Stops differ, so read each itinerary.
Where is Moyo, and why do boats stop there?
Moyo lies off the north coast of Sumbawa, at about 8.250 S, 117.567 E. Wikipedia gives it an area of 349 square kilometres and places it in Sumbawa Regency, with two administrative villages: Labuhan Aji in the south and Sebotok in the north. At that size, a single stop only ever covers a fraction of it.
Published itineraries point to two reasons why a Sumbawa liveaboard stops here. The first is position: Moyo sits on the north-coast line that one-way crossings follow between Bali and Labuan Bajo. The second is variety. It offers reef and wall sites for divers and time ashore for everyone else, which breaks up a programme built around tanks. Komodo Resort's description of the Neptune One crossing says the boat follows the coast past Moyo and Satonda on the way to Gili Banta. "Past" is the published wording, so anyone who wants to get off the boat there should ask whether it anchors.
What can you dive or snorkel around Moyo?
Three operators publish Moyo reef information, and they describe it at different levels of detail.
| Source | What it names | Depth it gives |
|---|---|---|
| Komodo Resort | Moyo reefs as one group | 5 to 30 m |
| Arenui sample itinerary | Angel Reef, off the west coast | Vertical wall to over 40 m |
| Coralia sample itinerary | Angel Reef, Little Angel and Panjang Reef | Site names only |
Those depth figures should stay separate. Komodo Resort's is a general range for a group of reefs, and Arenui's describes one wall. Your planned depth on the day comes from the dive guide and your certification, not from either list. Liveaboard Indonesia calls green and hawksbill turtles common on these reefs, and Neptune's site lists them as very common year-round. Our Sumbawa diving guide sets Moyo beside the other dive areas, with the certification levels operators recommend.
Snorkellers get less information. A shallow limit of 5 m in Komodo Resort's list tells you only that reef exists at that depth, not whether a site suits a swimmer on a given day. Equipment varies too: Sumbawa Tour lists snorkelling gear except fins among its inclusions. Non-divers weighing up a boat can read whether you can join without diving before they commit.

What is on land: waterfalls, villages, wildlife?
Mata Jitu is the named attraction. Wikipedia measures about 4 km from Labuhan Aji to the waterfall. The Langkah, a local operator, describes multiple natural pools reached by motorbike taxi from Labuan Aji (the spelling varies between sources), then about a five-minute walk. The same operator says the falls run strongest at the end of the rainy season, April to May. Sumbawa Holiday gives about 15 minutes by motorbike taxi on a bumpy road, while Sumbawa Tour describes about 30 minutes by mini truck, then about 30 minutes of soft trekking. Liveaboard Indonesia also names a second waterfall on the island, Diwu Mbai.
That timing matters for a boat guest, because several published departures fall later in the year. That April to May comment comes from one company, so it is a hint and not a forecast, and the season guide sets it beside the other sources. The fare The Langkah reports for the motorbike taxi is a land cost, shown in the price table on this page. Ask whether your operator covers it or leaves it to you. Green Rinjani's Labuan Bajo to Lombok itinerary is explicit about the stop, placing Moyo and its waterfall on day three. Our piece on getting to Mata Jitu from a liveaboard covers the logistics.
The wildlife lists come from two sources and neither is a promise of sightings:
- Wikipedia names long-tail macaques, wild bovines, wild pigs, deer and 21 bat species, including flying foxes.
- UNESCO, in its biosphere reserve entry, names Timor deer, wild boar, macaques and reticulated python on Moyo and Satonda.
- Published bird counts for the island disagree between sources, so we leave them out.
People live here as well. Beyond the two villages, Wikipedia records Amanwana, an Aman resort of 20 luxury tents. A liveaboard stop will not necessarily include a village visit, so treat one as something to request rather than assume.
What do reports say about reef damage and village fees at Moyo?
Dive The World, a dive travel agency, describes fractured, barren blast zones from dynamite fishing on the wall at Angel Reef and calls the practice prevalent around the island. The page carries no date and we have found no survey to set against it, so read it as one company's report. It also describes healthy hard coral in the shoreward shallows of the same reef, and Liveaboard Indonesia describes healthy hard coral above the wall. If reef condition decides your booking, ask the operator what its guides saw at Angel Reef on their most recent visit.
The same page says boats come out from the local village to collect fees from liveaboards. Sumbawa Holiday lists "Labuan Aji Villages Retribute" among its inclusions, as a separate line from the national park entrance and the marine and conservation fee, so a village charge exists on at least one programme. Ask whether your rate covers a village charge as well as the park charge, who collects it, and whether you get a receipt.
What does national park status mean for a visit?
It means a single management designation in place of three older ones. The West Nusa Tenggara provincial government reported in August 2022 that Moyo Satonda National Park was established under Ministerial Decree SK.901/MENLHK/SETJEN/PL.2/8/2022, covering about 31,200.15 hectares in Sumbawa and Dompu regencies. It replaced the Moyo Island hunting park, the Moyo Island marine nature park and the Satonda Island nature park. Some reference pages still call the park proposed, and the provincial notice is the firmer record.
For a guest, the practical effect is an entry charge. The Langkah reports that the fee follows standard Indonesian national park rates and is collected at the entrance post. The foreign-visitor amounts it reports are in the price table on this page, labelled as an operator's report. Boats treat the charge differently: Sumbawa Tour builds an entrance fee into its private programme, and Komodo Resort leaves park charges out of its rate. The Moyo Satonda National Park guide covers status and permits in more depth.
Which published routes include Moyo?
These trips and dates belong to the sellers named, set side by side so you can compare the wording. They are not our schedule.
| Source | Trip as published | How Moyo appears |
|---|---|---|
| Arenui | Sample Labuan Bajo to Bali, 10 days 9 nights | Named with Sangeang in the sample |
| Coralia | Sample Labuan Bajo round trip, 10 nights | Named with Saleh Bay and Satonda; itinerary may change |
| Komodo Resort, for Neptune One | Bali to Labuan Bajo, 10 days 9 nights; 20 June 2027 departure listed | Coast followed past Moyo and Satonda |
| Tiger Blue | 10 nights from Labuan Bajo, private charter or by the cabin | Links Komodo with Sumbawa and Moyo |
| Sumbawa Tour | Private 4D/3N from Sumbawa Besar | Follows Satonda and two whale shark mornings |
| Green Rinjani | Labuan Bajo to Lombok | Waterfall stop on day three |
Two patterns stand out. Long trips treat Moyo as one reef area among several, so the time you get depends on what else the boat wants to reach. Short trips from Sumbawa Besar and the shared Lombok route treat it as a shore stop or a final call. A sample itinerary is a statement of intent: Coralia says outright that its route may change. If Moyo is the reason you are booking, the published sample is only your starting point for a conversation with the operator. Whole-trip rates are compared on the Sumbawa liveaboard cost page, and if a boat can only give real time to one island, read whether Moyo or Satonda deserves it. The route comparison sets those patterns side by side, the Bali to Komodo crossing guide and the 4D/3N guide cover the two ends of the range, and Satonda and the Saleh Bay whale shark stop are the neighbours most often named with Moyo.
Can you reach Moyo without a liveaboard?
Yes. The Langkah says public boats leave from Muara Kali, near Sumbawa Besar airport, but warns that the schedule is unreliable and that boats tend to go only when enough passengers are aboard. The fare it reports is in the price table on this page. Staying on the island is the other route, with Amanwana the resort Wikipedia records there.
Reaching Muara Kali is the easy part if you fly. Wikipedia records daily Wings Air flights linking Sumbawa Besar with Lombok and Denpasar. Overland from Lombok, The Langkah gives 1.5 to 2 hours on the Kayangan to Poto Tano ferry, then about two hours by road to Sumbawa Besar.
Arriving by public boat puts the villages and the waterfall within reach and leaves you free of a boat's timetable, but you give up the dive programme and need spare days to absorb a departure that may not happen when you hoped. A liveaboard gets you to the reefs with your bed and meals following you, and it may give you only a few hours ashore. For travel to the harbours, see getting to a Sumbawa liveaboard.
What should you confirm before booking a Moyo stop?
- Which day the boat reaches Moyo, and whether it anchors or only passes.
- How many dives are planned there, and at which named sites.
- Whether time ashore is scheduled, and who pays the motorbike taxi and entry charge.
- What happens to the stop if conditions force a change of route.
Which published prices did we check?
Rates and fees published by named operators, trip organisers and travel guides, each with its source and the month we checked it. They are not our offers. Rates change, and estimates are labelled as estimates; check the source before you rely on a figure.

What other questions do guests ask about Moyo?
Does every Sumbawa liveaboard itinerary include Moyo Island?
No. Moyo is named on several published itineraries, including samples from Arenui and Coralia, but stops differ by route and can change. Ask for the Moyo day by number in the itinerary you receive.
How can I find a trip that names both Moyo and Satonda?
Look for the island names in the day-by-day text rather than the trip title. Coralia names both in its sample round trip, and Sumbawa Tour lists both in the sequence of its private 4D/3N programme.
What does a Moyo Island liveaboard cost?
No published rate covers Moyo alone, because listed rates cover whole trips. The amounts on this page cover only park entry and local transport, as reported by one tour operator.
When does the Mata Jitu waterfall flow strongest?
The Langkah, a local operator, says the end of the rainy season, April to May. That is one company's observation and not a measured flow record.
Is Moyo worth a stop for a non-diver?
Yes, on itineraries that schedule time ashore. The waterfall, the pools and the wildlife are the draw on land. A boat that only passes the island or dives its walls will give a non-diver very little there.
