Sourced figures: prices in the table are published by the operators and guides named, with source and check month. They are not our offers, and they change. Nothing here is legal or medical advice.

Extra costs on a Sumbawa liveaboard, as operators and travellers name them, fall into five lines: park and port fees, Nitrox and rental gear, crew tips, card charges, and travel to the boat. La Galigo, itself an operator, warns that some companies reveal such costs only at the final booking stage, so get every line in writing before any deposit.
Which fees are charged on board?
On a Sumbawa liveaboard, start with park and conservation fees. La Galigo says they are usually paid on board and handled by the operator, and its estimate per trip is in the price table on this page. Tiger Blue states a flat park fee, also in the table, and says it is not included in the trip rate. Those two figures come from different companies and describe different things: one is a broad estimate by itinerary, and the other is one operator's charge on one Sumbawa trip. Use the line that matches the boat you are actually comparing.
A third layer sits underneath. The Langkah, a tour operator, reports a standard-rate Moyo Satonda park fee, taken at the gate post. Whether your boat's onboard charge already covers that gate fee is something to ask directly. Our national park guide sets out what is known about it.
The same line can fall on either side of the rate. Komodo Resort excludes park and port fees on the trip it lists, while Sumbawa Tour includes an entrance fee, a bagan fee and a local guide boat in its private programme. That difference alone can make the lower headline rate the more expensive trip.
Other onboard items are smaller, but they add up across a week:
- Drinks: excluded by Komodo Resort, while Sumbawa Tour excludes alcohol specifically.
- Internet: Komodo Resort lists basic Starlink as included on Neptune One, and a premium package as an extra.
- Port fees: named as an exclusion by Komodo Resort, with no published tariff for any Sumbawa harbour that we have found.
- Single cabins: a supplement appears on Komodo Resort's exclusion list with no published rate, and EcoPro Divers states 75 percent for single occupancy, one operator's term.
What do divers add to the bill?
Rental gear and Nitrox are the two lines that scale with trip length. La Galigo's per-day estimates for both are in the price table on this page. A diver who rents only a regulator should not budget for the full-set figure, and one who stays on air for the first few days should ask whether Nitrox can be bought by the day or only for the whole trip. La Galigo's guide gives a per-trip figure as well as a daily one, so the answer changes the sum.
Dive insurance sits off the boat's invoice and still belongs in the budget. La Galigo says many operators want proof of it before boarding, which means it is effectively a condition of travel on those boats. Snorkellers have a small version of the same problem: both Sumbawa Tour and Green Rinjani list snorkel equipment without fins, so a swimmer who wants them should bring a pair or budget to hire. The diving guide explains which sites call for which level of training.
How much do crews expect in tips?
Two published guides exist, and they use different bases. Komodo Resort describes crew tipping as customary and gives a per-person, per-day guide, shown in the price table on this page. La Galigo cites a common global guideline of 5 to 10 percent of the trip price, usually pooled among the crew. Both are a third-party norm, not our rate, and neither source presents the tip as a compulsory charge.
The two methods can produce quite different totals on an expensive cabin, so ask the boat three things: which guideline its guests usually follow, whether tips are pooled, and whether cash is expected. Komodo Resort advises carrying cash for remote areas and names ATMs at Sumbawa Besar and Bima, which makes the last stop before departure the moment to draw what you need.
What do payment methods add?
Card fees are the easiest cost to miss, because they surface at the moment you pay. One traveller reports a 3 percent credit card fee on a Lombok to Labuan Bajo booking. That is a single report on a single booking, but it is a good reason to ask for the card and bank transfer totals side by side.
Payment timing has a cost of its own, even when no fee is attached. Tropical Snorkeling sets a staged plan on its long trip, with an initial deposit, interim deposits at 12 and 6 months, and the balance three months before departure. Green Rinjani's cancellation terms on its short route, quoted in the comparison checklist, run on a far shorter clock, and the two examples show how far apart operators can be. The money you risk by cancelling belongs in your comparison alongside the extras.
What about getting there?
Travel to the boat rarely appears in the rate. La Galigo's estimate for return domestic flights is in the price table on this page. Sumbawa Tour and Green Rinjani both name flights as excluded, and Green Rinjani adds hotels and travel insurance to that list. Komodo Resort, by contrast, lists transfers as included, and says departure ports can change, with its reservations team confirming the meeting point.
That last detail has a cost implication. If the port can move, a non-refundable flight or hotel booked too early may need replacing. Hold those bookings until the meeting point is confirmed in writing, and allow a buffer night if your connection is tight. Routes and timings are in the guide to getting to a Sumbawa liveaboard.
How do you turn a quote into a full budget?
Go through the quote line by line and mark each item as in, out or unknown. The table shows how differently three published lists treat the same lines, and our page on what a Sumbawa liveaboard price includes goes through inclusions in more detail.
| Line | Listed as extra by | Listed as included by |
|---|---|---|
| Park or entrance fees | Komodo Resort, Tiger Blue | Sumbawa Tour |
| Transfers | Not named as extra in these lists | Komodo Resort, Sumbawa Tour, Green Rinjani |
| Nitrox and rental gear | Komodo Resort | Not named as included in these lists |
| Bagan fee and local guide boat | Not named as extra in these lists | Sumbawa Tour |
| Snorkel gear | Not named as extra in these lists | Komodo Resort; Sumbawa Tour and Green Rinjani without fins |
| Flights | Sumbawa Tour, Green Rinjani | Not named as included in these lists |
| Travel insurance | Green Rinjani | Not named as included in these lists |
La Galigo's warning costs nothing to follow: ask for the extras before the deposit, not after. Apply the same test to us. Requests through this desk can lead to a contract with our companies, so an offer from us deserves the same line-by-line reading as anyone else's, and any fee and payment terms are stated in the offer. The disclaimer sets out that relationship.
Which published prices did we check?
Rates and fees published by named operators, trip organisers and travel guides, each with its source and the month we checked it. They are not our offers. Rates change, and estimates are labelled as estimates; check the source before you rely on a figure.

What other questions do guests ask about extra costs?
Are national park fees included in Sumbawa liveaboard prices?
Not always. Komodo Resort and Tiger Blue list them as extras, while Sumbawa Tour counts one among its private programme's inclusions. Your own quote is the only document that settles it.
Is tipping expected on Sumbawa liveaboards?
Yes, on the operators that address it. Komodo Resort calls crew tips customary, and La Galigo cites a percentage guideline. Neither source presents it as a compulsory charge.
Can I pay for extras by card on the boat?
Do not count on it. Komodo Resort advises carrying cash for remote areas and names ATMs at Sumbawa Besar and Bima. Ask your operator how onboard bills are settled before you leave the last town.
How much should I add on top of the rate?
No single figure would be honest, because each estimate has a different basis and a different author. Add only the lines that apply to your boat, your trip length and your own choices on gear and tips.
Is dive insurance an extra I have to arrange myself?
Yes. None of the published inclusion lists here names it. Arrange it early and keep the document where you can show it, since La Galigo reports that boats often want to see it at boarding.
